2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited Rubicon - RocksannePosted in Features on October 9, 2013 Comment (0)
First and foremost, Nicole Johnson is a mom. With a degree in construction management, she works from home as partner with her husband, Frank, in their Las Vegas, Nevada, construction business. We're sure you already know Nicole is an award-winning professional rockcrawler and Monster Jam truck driver. In her spare time (?) she dabbles in shooting sports with her Las Vegas gun shop.
Nicole grew up hanging out with her diesel mechanic father and learning to like everything oily. She started off-roading in Frank's 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser. Many family off-roading and camping trips morphed into rockcrawling and, finally, the Monster Jam gig. Driving monster trucks is great fun, but so is Jeeping.
For her latest ride, Nicole chose a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. ReadyLIFT Off Road Suspensions approached Nicole and offered to help with the build as a way to spotlight their new Jeep suspension systems. While she was perfectly capable of doing the build herself, Nicole agreed.
Burnsville Off-Road installed a Chrysler 6.4L Hemi V-8 and beefed up the WA580 automatic. Rebel Off-Road was recruited to complete the rest of the build. The ReadyLIFT Off Road suspension includes their fully adjustable short arms that use Currie Johnny Joints, track bars, and ReadyLIFT monotube shocks. It installs easily and its performance is surprising. More on that later. Rebel installed Currie Rock Jock 60 front and rearends loaded with 5.38 gears and ARB Air Lockers, front and rear. An ARB onboard compressor supplies air when it's working. Have you ever tried to steer a JK in the rocks with lockers engaged? First, you can't turn, then the steering box sector shaft fails. So this wouldn't happen to Nicole, a PSC Performance hydraulic steering ram was added.
Nemesis aluminum flares were installed to help clear the 40x13.50R17LT D Nitto Mud Grapplers mounted on 17x8 Walker Evans Racing beadlock wheels. Rebel installed a Warn front bumper with a Warn 9.5-cti winch, Rock-Slide Engineering Step-Slider rocker guards with retractable electric side steps, and a rear bumper/tire carrier from Knuckles Off-Road. Other additions included Rugged Ridge half doors, Rock Hard sport cage, ASFIR aluminum skidplates, Rigid LED lights, and an sPOD power distribution center. Occupants are shaded from the hot Nevada desert sun by a SpiderWebShade TrailMesh JKini top. The onboard compressor would take almost forever to inflate the big Nittos, so she carries a Power Tank PT15 in the back.
The ReadyLIFT Off Road suspension proves even simple, quality suspensions work on the JK Unlimited. The ride was controlled and smooth, even over whoops, in the sand, or on the rocks. Time was limited for our photo shoot and Nicole was disappointed she couldn't wring it out more for us. In the short time we had, we were impressed with the way the big Jeep worked.
Nicole has a Wrangler to be proud of and ReadyLIFT has a great representative. Rocksanne is a "cute" name, but, as you can see, this Jeep is as tough and competent as its owner.
