2004 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner - Time FliesPosted in Features on December 9, 2013 Comment (0)
We all have uttered those words when we look back and wonder how we got where we are today. Our jobs, the family, and day-to-day living tend to push projects to the back burner. But for some, if the goal is worth it, no amount of time will deter them. Such is the case with Jason and Nikol Pritchard. Their 2004 Toyota Tacoma project started in 2009 when they purchased the stock Tacoma with plans to transform it into a race truck.
Jason earns his living in service to our country in the Air Force. Shortly after purchasing the truck, he was reassigned to the capitol in Washington, D.C. Having already invested a modest amount of work in the truck, Jason and Nikol decided to leave the truck with friend Khris Kading in Las Vegas, where they were living at the time, rather than sell it or move it to Washington.
Khris agreed to store the truck and continue to build it. In 2011, Jason used his deployment bonus to help fund additional work. At that point, Jason and Khris formed Tax Payer Funded Racing, (TPFR). Working after hours and on weekends, Khris stripped the truck and started a major rebuild. Like many, he honed his fabrication skills as he went along.
TPFR ran their first race in 2013 at the HDRA Las Vegas 250. They finished the race but missed the cutoff time by a mere seven minutes, resulting in a DNF. They planned to race the remainder of the 2013 season, but duty called again and Jason shipped out to London where he is currently posted. (With the rank of Air Force Master Sergeant and 17 years of service, he coordinates joint U.S.-U.K. training programs at the U.S. Embassy in London.)
The good news is that Jason will be racing the truck again. Plans are to compete in the HDRA Mirage Las Vegas 300 in January 2014. Jason's love for off-road racing began when he was only 6 years old and has never wavered. When looking back at the time he has spent away from his passion he will be the first to say, time flies!
