YJ springs. Whether it is the earliest flatfender or the latest CJ, YJ springs are often our first go-to for suspension under CJs. They are flat, wide, and long, so they offer better ride and better flex than just about any CJ spring could muster. On many of the earlier Jeeps, it is necessary to lengthen the front of the frame to get the tire centered in the wheelwell. Look closely and you can see how a piece of 2x3 square tubing was added and serves as a bumper and place to mount the front spring hanger.
