No matter what, get rid of this. Unfortunately, most TJs came with the Dana 35 rear axle. Don’t put money into it. And when we say don’t put money into it, know that we’ve used a brake job as an excuse to swap this axle out from under our Jeep before. You can junkyard a Ford 8.8 or Dana 44 pretty easily and thanks to companies like G2 Axle and Gear you can get a complete new Dana 44 (sans brakes) with your choice of gears, 35-spline axleshafts, and an ARB Air Locker for just $2,600 ready to bolt in, making it harder than ever to justify putting money in the old turdy-five.
