If you have an ’02-or-earlier TJ, you are going to want to put some kind of protection out front for your steering box. That army-helmet-looking cap on the end of it is basically sheetmetal. The YJs never really needed added protection because the leaf springs were hanging out there. But with no leaf spring out front, that box is vulnerable. Many aftermarket bumpers have them built in, but if yours doesn’t or even if you have a factory bumper, that $50 skid can save a lot of issues on the trail.
