You may already know Kolby Enger and his family. They own and operate Turn Key Engine Supply in Oceanside, California, and have been supplying quality powertrains to the enthusiast market for years.
Turn Key performs California smog-legal V-8 swaps into JK Wranglers. As the SEMA Show was a week away, Kolby built his 2008 JK Wrangler Unlimited (in five days) to showcase what Turn Key can do for their customers. For starters, he installed a GM 6.2L VVT aluminum block V-8 and 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission. The swap is completely CARB approved and the Jeep is registered in California.
Currie Enterprises 4-inch suspension bolts on and works well on- and off-road. Teamed with Fox 2.5 reservoir shock absorbers, the suspension is stellar. Front and rearends are fabricated Currie F9s with 1-ton outers up front. A PSC hydraulic ram assist system helps Kolby steer in the rocks.
Keeping the Jeep simple, Poison Spyder Customs BFH bumpers were installed front and rear, with a Baja Designs 10-inch Stealth light bar on the front bumper. The OE Rubicon rocker guards were retained, and Rugged Ridge fender flares allow the 37-inch Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar tires to articulate with no rubbing.
As a showcase for Turn Key’s offerings, Kolby’s Wrangler Unlimited shines. During our photo shoot, he put the Jeep in harm’s way whenever requested and came out unscathed. The Turn Key JK is outstanding.
