Originally, the van was equipped with coil springs and radius-style control arms. Hank stated that he didn’t like how the van drove, and often struggled with death wobble. To get it driving better, he sent the van to Ujoint Offroad in Fletcher, North Carolina, to have one of the company’s 8-inch solid-axle conversions installed. Ujoint uses a high-pinion Dana 60 front from a Ford Super Duty that’s fitted with custom crossover steering. The conversion also allowed Hank to retain his stock wheel speed sensors.
