Matt used a Series IIA T-case filled with b-series 2.88:1 low gears. It’s mated to a Chevy NP435 tranny using the adapter Matt designed, now sold through Advance Adapters under PN 50-9000. Chevy NP435s are uncommon and most came with 4:1 First gear ratios. Matt enjoyed this setup with his 327, but for the L31 Vortec, he swapped Ford guts into the Chevy case. A Chevy pressure plate and Ford disc hook to the engine. It’s an unusual combo, but it allows Matt to use a factory ’69 GM cast-iron bellhousing with the benefit of the Ford’s 6.69:1 First gear. A Land Cruiser slave cylinder is pushed by a cast-iron CJ Master cylinder, Dorman PN 106439. Matt claims the 13/16 master allows better modulation of the clutch.
