Chicks-J, Sahara Unlimited JK and More!
Tim and Kath Logel are Jeeping enthusiasts and spend a lot of time wheeling in Moab, Utah, and around Colorado. Their newest obsession is this '07 Sahara Unlimited. It has a 3-inch Skyjacker lift and 35-inch Goodyear MT/Rs with Kevlar. The V-6 got some help from a Hypertech programmer and 5.13 gears bolted to a pair of ARB Air Lockers. An 8000-pound-rated Ramsey winch sits on the front Rugged Ridge bumper and Xenon fender flares deflect off rocks.
This '01 Cherokee Sport belongs to Courtney Martini of Monroe, New Jersey, and she's built it all herself. The 6.5-inch Rough Country lift provides enough clearance for the 33x12.50R16 Mud Brutes on American Racing Rims. The stock 4.0L engine, AW4 and NP242 are all still present and accounted for. It has home-built steel bumpers with shackle mounts all around. Custom-made tail light guards and a fake dual exhaust (split behind the axle) sum up the modifications. Courtney takes it wheeling near her home just as often as she can.
Red Rider This '04 Grand Cherokee Laredo belongs to Tanner Johnson who hails from Wyoming. The picture was taken while wheeling on Red Mountain which is on the border of Wyoming and Colorado. Power comes from the tried-and-true inline-six, but this 4.0L gets a boost from a Comp Cams camshaft, AEM intake, Rubicon Express bored throttle body, and Poweraid throttle body spacer. The Westin grill guard holds parts-store 7-inch HID lights. Out back, Tanner built his own swing-out tire carrier with LED marker lights. When he lifted the Jeep, the Rough Country 2-inch spacer lift was the only kit available to clear the BFG ATs.
This '86 CJ-7 still has the Dana 44 rear, Dana 30 front, and Dana 300 T-case but the stock 258 head was tossed in favor of a 4.0L HO head and professionally installed fuel injection. Stephen Syms of Chico, California, doesn't tell us if it is a Jeep injection system or other injection system, but he does tell us that he had a custom birch veneer dashboard applied at a local cabinet shop. The Jeep has Bestop seats and carpet kit with a Warn front bumper all held aloft by some 32x11.50R15 BFG ATs wrapped around the stock chrome rims. The hardtop with the bronze-tinted windows is off a Golden Eagle CJ-7.
Don't fix what isn't broke might be Jake Ostrom's motto. This Roulette, Pennsylvania, resident has retained much of the stock running gear on his '68 CJ-5. The 225ci Buick V-6 is still bolted to the T-14 and Spicer 18 with power going out to the Dana 27 front axle and Dana 44 rear (both with 3.73 gears). A K&N air filter, fenderwell headers, and 40-series Flowmaster mufflers help the V-6 put power to the ground through the 31x10.50-15 Super Swamper TSLs wrapped around some polished 15x8 Pro Comp rims. The entire Jeep has been hosed down in a newer hue: '02 Chevy Impulse Blue.
Jeremy Ward of Summersville, West Virginia, sent in his '92 Cherokee as a follow-up to a tech question that was printed in the April '10 issue of Jp magazine. The 4.0 HO is backed by an AW4 and NP231 while the Dana 30 front axle and Dana 35 rear both got 4.10 gears. To help the rear live a little longer, it was also graced with some 30-spline Superior axle shafts and an Auburn ECTED. A Rusty's Off Road 4 1/2-inch lift coupled with 1-inch-lift shackles provides enough clearance for the 31x10.50R15 Maxxis Big Horn tires. A Rusty's Off Road adjustable track bar and heavy-duty mount along with the off-road tie-rod-end conversion round out the mods.
