2015 Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon - A Pearl Of A 4x4Posted in Features on May 12, 2016
In the midst of a nearly 100 Jeeps, the ’15 JK Wrangler Unlimited owned by the Ron and Christina Friemel stood out like a lighthouse beacon of blue radiant color. We could hardly take our eyes off of it. The Hydro Blue Pearl paint job drew curious onlookers like bears to honey. Once you were standing close enough to check out the details, the modest, yet purposeful, modifications made to the Jeep became obvious.
The beautiful blue body was fit with a Mopar front bumper and brushguard, and an AEV rear bumper and swing-out tire carrier. A Rugged Ridge LED lightbar was mounted to the top of the stinger-style brushguard. Aside from these minor body adornments and the 35-inch Fierce Attitude tires mounted to 17x8 Mopar beadlock wheels with body-match painted rings, there were no other obvious mods.
However, once you got down on the ground and checked under the frame, Friemel’s handiwork (Ron owns a NAPA auto parts store, knows his way around vehicles, and did all the suspension installation) shined as bright as the Jeep’s paint job. He chose a 4-inch Teraflex suspension kit with Fox shocks and MetalCloak dual-rate coil springs all the way around. He installed a set of Teraflex bump stops too.
Also found down below the frame was an AEV skidplate protecting the rear axle’s pumpkin, Tom Woods driveshafts, and the 2 1/2 inch DynaMax exhaust system that helps the 3.6L V-6 breathe a bit easier. While unmolested by the installation of excessive hardware and seemingly stock-ish, the ’15 Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon owned by the Friemels easily handled the two-day flog through some of Utah’s beautiful wilderness during our inaugural Jp Dirt ’N Drive, and we were pleased to see it on some of the Moab trails during the 2016 50th Anniversary Easter Jeep Safari as well. You couldn’t miss that Hydro Blue Pearl in a crowd.
