You can see some elements of the later FJ-series Land Cruiser in this, but for the most part, this rig was designed for easy production and to use as much existing parts and tooling as possible. The engine and transmission were from a 1 1/2-ton truck then in production. The axles and chassis were from a 1-ton truck, also then in production. The signature 6-lug Toyota wheels are here. The wheelbase is 14 inches longer than the military jeep or civilian CJ of the period, but a lot of that is used up in the long hood needed for the 207ci six.
