Fixing the crack involved more than just cutting the offending tube off of the frame and welding the crack shut. The weakened frame needed a gusset. Mike Ingalsbee usually works with CAD and laser cutters but temporarily set the high-tech tools aside to build this gusset from cold-rolled steel. The pattern was made with cardboard, a black marker, and a pair of scissors. The steel was cut to shape with a Sawzall, a grinder, and a hole saw. High-quality work is high-quality work, regardless of the tools used or where the work is being done.
