High Pinion Differential

Toyota saw fit to use a high-pinion front differential in the FJ Cruiser. High-pinion front diffs use reverse-cut gears that are about 30-percent stronger than low-pinion/standard-cut gears in a front application. The ring-gear diameters are the same, front and rear. Our initial impression of the FJ Cruiser still stands: Toyota put the emphasis in the right places by building the FJ with a stout drivetrain and a sturdy chassis.
