Dynatrac Stub-Hub Kit - Really Short And Really SweetPosted in How To on April 1, 2007 Comment (0)
There are a lot of ways to increase the strength and capability of your 4x4. Some of the methods involve long and detailed installations, while others can be quick and easy and afford just as much improvement. This is the case with Dynatrac's new Stub- Hub kit and DynaLoc locking hubs, both of which address long-ignored and somewhat antiquated elements of your vehicle's 4WD system.
The DynaLoc hub enters the 4WD market as the first major innovation in locking-hub design in the past 30 years. Starting from scratch, Dynatrac completely re-engineered the locking hub to make it perform better and provide greater clearance in extreme wheeling conditions. The DynaLoc is designed to replace stock locking hubs on Ford, Dodge, and chevy trucks equipped with 1977-present Dana 60 front axles. Whereas the gears in conventional locking hubs can be pushed apart during hightorque driving situations, the gears in the DynaLoc locking hub pull together even tighter for continued positive engagement. DynaLoc locking hubs feature chrome-moly, Teflon-coated, heat-treated, steel gears that are said to be over three-and-a-half times stronger than other available locking hubs for Dana 60 axles. The strength of the DynaLoc's outer components was also improved upon, with it receiving an easy-turning, billet-steel, hard-anodized aluminum knob and billet-knob bezel. The DynaLoc hubs can easily be installed and serviced by anyone with basic wrenching skills, and all of the DynaLoc components are made in the USa and are backed by a warranty.
Another new offering from Dynatrac is its Stub-Hub kit designed for Dana 60 axles. When paired with the DynaLoc, the Stub-Hub creates over 2 inches more side-to-side clearance at the hub. The shorter hub profile effectively decreases side interference with rocks and other trail obstacles so your vehicle can experience unimpaired forward motion. Kits are available for 35- and 40-spline axle applications and include new forged steel spindles and wheel hubs formed from nodular castings. Made in the USa, the entire setup is designed to use common Timken wheel bearings and seals and is available for 5- , 6-, and 8-lug wheel bolt patterns. The Stub-Hub can be installed using conventional locking hubs or the new DynaLoc hubs.
With so many new 4x4 products on the market each year, the DynaLoc locking hub and Stub-Hub kit are some that really stand out from the rest. Both are incredibly useful to a broad base of vehicles and can make a noticeable difference in how you use your 4WD rig. To get a firsthand glimpse of these innovative products, we carried out an installation on our Dynatrac Prorock 60-equipped Jeep Wrangler. The photos and captions tell the rest of the story.
