When we equipped our Tundra to clear 35-inch tires, we weren't really thinking about where we'd store the spare. Most of the time we just threw it in the bed, but that's just asking for trouble when you park around Los Angeles or if you get in an accident. We'd usually end up either leaving it at home or folding up the Tundra's rear seats and stuffing it in the back of the cab. Neither one of these options really suited us, so we knew it was time for a lockable mount of some sort. We made a quick call to our friends at OR- Fab, and they sent us a Pre Runner Tire Carrier, which provided us with an easy solution to this particular problem. If male pattern baldness were this easy to fix, we'd pretty much be problem free at this point.
The body of the carrier is one piece - a good thing when you imagine the weight of the tire it will carry and the violent vibrations the truck bed suffers when blasting through whoops. The installation was a snap; we measured, drilled, and bolted. Once we had the spare up on the mount, we topped it off with a lock we bought at our local 99-Cent Only Store. Now we can relax, satisfied with the fact that if a thief wants to steal our spare, he'll have to spend at least a few minutes breaking our chintzy lock. Good enough for us!
