Snap-ring pliers are something for which there's no substitute. These three are all Craftsman. The red-handled pliers are used for snap rings, which have sharp pointed ends (AKA double angled) and no holes. The other two pairs have pointed tips for snap rings with u-notches or holes. The yellow-handled pair wasn't robust enough for the snap rings I usually work with, so I got the black-handled pair in the middle. The black-handled snap ring pliers had a center pivot shaft that constantly backed out, so I replaced it with a short shoulder bolt, washers, and a lock nut and it's worked flawlessly ever since.
