TireGate's been manufacturing a number of tire carrier options for some time now, and we're betting you've seen some of their offerings. Its popular PreRunner Carrier can be mounted so that the tire leans towards the cab or away, and the entire unit swings out of the truckbed for easy access. The folks at TireGate knew Raptor owners would likely be interested in this kind of carrier, so they got to work designing the vehicle-specific application. We made sure we were on hand to document an install of this brand new product, which can now be ordered through Ford dealers as an optional part for the Raptor.
The TireGate PreRunner allows fitment of up to a 40-inch tire, which leaves plenty of room for the 35-inch tall BF Goodrich All Terrain KO's that come from the factory on every Raptor. A lockable tether and a Y-bar with a urethane wheel cone keep the spare tire securely attached to the carrier, and the swing-out function is easy to use. Installation is a snap-in fact the existing tailgate bolt holes are utilized. Check the photos for a rundown of what's involved.
