When Brian Chuchua designed the CJ-8 Scrambler, no one, including AMC Jeep, knew they would become popular and turn into a classic. Many purchased CJ-8s after they went out of production and discarded the half cab. All they wanted the Scrambler for was its 103-inch wheelbase. Later, people figured out that having a pickup - a Jeep CJ pickup - was a good thing. OE half cabs and bulkheads became hot items and salvage yards did big business in them until they were gone.

Enter GR8TOPS. GR8TOPS traces its roots to the love of CJ-8 Scramblers. Matt, owner of GR8TOPS, has a long history of involvement with the Scrambler Owners Association and is the owner of www.cj-8.com. The company started in 2003 and was the first to market aftermarket Jeep half hardtops in 2004. Since then, GR8TOPS has been producing quality half tops - not only CJ-8 Scrambler half cabs, but half tops and bulkheads for the CJ, YJ, TJ, and LJ. GR8TOPS is a "GR8" company, building a fine product.

Care was taken while creating the tops to match the lines of TJs and LJs to help make the top look OEM. The five roof ribs that run front to back and an integrated contour in the rear of the top for the LED third brake light set GR8TOPS half cabs apart. The tops are high quality, fit perfectly, and include a bulkhead to close off the bottom half. They're constructed using three-ply fiberglass with core-mat reinforcement so they are extremely durable. The bulkhead is fiberglass as well and can be equipped with optional speaker pods for speakers or for more in-cab storage. Standard finish is a good-looking black textured gel coat. GR8TOPS can also be ordered in a bare sanded primer finish if you wish to color match the top.

The GR8TOPS half hardtop fits perfectly and makes your Jeep a useful pickup.

After installing a GR8TOP half hardtop, Jeep owners have an enclosed cab that's secure from silty dust, heat, cold, and thieves, and have a place to carry gas cans, tools, and exploring equipment in back. Yet, the vehicle will still be a hard-core Jeep, able to travel the toughest trails. How many times when exploring have you seen a two-track trail going somewhere, followed it, only to find that it had deteriorated to a trail that only a highly modified vehicle could traverse?

The GR8TOPS half cab hardtop makes Jeeps much more than they were. They can be a Jeep, a pickup, a convertible (yes, GR8TOPS hardtops can be easily removed), a daily driver - pretty much an all-around vehicle. The factory full soft or hardtop can even be reused if full coverage is ever needed again.
