Trip planning is done on a computer. This screen shows the place we decided to camp and the destination, which is an arch. The blue line was drawn with the mouse using the "LINE" feature of TopoUSA. The route was chosen based on elevation. Moving the mouse to any point on the screen acquires the elevation for that point. The Aerial Color Imagery was downloaded from the DeLorme Web Site using the Netlink capability of TopoUSA. Since there are no roads or trails in the area, the chosen route can be anywhere. We will be on public lands managed by the BLM. TopoUSA also has a layer that can be loaded to view land management. When that layer is active, private lands, BLM lands, and other land ownership is displayed in different colors.
