Level Ten Transmission
A while back we got an offer from Level 10: They thought they could build a transmission for our editor-in-chief that he would not prematurely kill. Let us delve a bit further and tell you that he's never gotten more than 40,000 miles out of any transmission in his entire life. To date, this Level Ten transmission is still shifting strong, and has outlasted the (now) blown-up engine that was put in at the same time, 50,000 miles ago. Nice job, Level 10.
BMS Chevy Tie Rods
As you may or may not already know, the steering tie rods on newer Chevys can be quite inadequate for larger tires. Therefore many lifted Chevy IFS owners switch over to aftermarket tie rod kits. We bolted a Blitzkrieg HD tie rod kit onto our friend's Chevy about eight months ago, and so far they've been working excellently. Our friend has not broken another tie rod and the rod ends have exhibited no amount of play.
Currie Prerunner Rear End
We've had the Currie F9 housing in our project Bronco, "The Juice," since last September, and the thing's just as rugged as we had hoped it would be. Everyone notices the race-inspired design (which actually is functional-strength and clearance are improved over traditional 9-Inch axlehousing designs). Taking Ford 9-inch internals and costing only $600 for the housing, this seemed like a really great deal. And so far...it has been! Though we haven't been jumping our recipient (of this axle) Bronco too high yet, we have been doing some good off-roading and haven't yet blown out an axle seal or bent the housing. If or when we do, we'll let you know.
After an original Chevy starter finally died on our '74 Blazer, it was time to upgrade. The old Chevy starters were known for not working when they got hot, and ours had a really slow cranking speed when it died. We popped in a new Powermaster starter in less than half an hour, and were listening to high-speed cranks that made our ride feel like a new car. It's been over a year since we installed it, and so far it's still cranking like a champ.
