Ideally, a completely flat pitman arm offers the best strength. However, it is often not possible to use a flat pitman as drop is needed to accommodate a lift, reduce draglink angle, and sometimes provide clearance to the frame or some other component. However, note that a dropped pitman is more prone to being twisted under high torque load and poses a greater risk of breaking the sector shaft in the steering box.
