Loose or exposed wires are more prone to vibration or damage from being disturbed. Exposed conductors should be covered with insulation. Shrink-wrap tubing is the best solution and often the toughest covering. Electrical tape can be used but ensure that it cannot unwrap over time. Thoughtful routing of wiring will help keep the outer insulation from abrading from rubbing on metal surfaces. Grommets should be used where wiring is fed through metal panels to further protect from chaffing and shorts.
