Buying Well-Used Rigs: Junk Or Jewel?

They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and that can certainly be said about the automotive world. There are plenty of people who wouldn’t be caught dead in an older, maybe clapped-out vehicle. Then there are those who have motor oil running in their veins and can’t pass a pile of automotive “junk” and not do a double-take.

If I’m looking to buy a used vehicle, I usually prefer to buy from an owner who’s had it a while, and I prefer to see it at their residence when I can. How a person cares for their house and yard may give you some indication as to how they care for their vehicles. Beyond that, some well-placed questions can reveal more about the care and condition of the vehicle.

At OFF-ROAD, you’ve seen us feature some fairly pricey rigs, but we try to bring you some ideas for budget builds as well. You might find good buys through friends or you can scour online sites like Craigslist for deals. You’ll find that working these ads can be rewarding, discouraging, and sometimes hilariously funny. There are all kinds of folks selling stuff for what they think its worth.
