Gear ratios are measured using the pinion gear versus the ring gear. If it takes a pinion gear 3.55 times to turn a ring gear one full revolution, then you have a 3.55:1 gear ratio. In other words, it will take 3.55 turns of the driveshaft to turn your tires once.
