Project Mud Buggy

Having a strong and reliable buggy is crucial to any hardcore hunter or mudder, although performance and durability aren't the only things that matter to some mudaholics. The overall look of your rig can be just as important as its abilities. As they say, presentation is everything! Especially when there are hundreds of hard-partying, bikini-wearing, mud-covered Southern girls roaming the events looking for a ride. When we are done with this rig we will be able to navigate our way through parks in style, getting us into the thick of the action while carrying around a bunch of partiers.

The buggy is our camera and video platform, and the shutters will be rolling and snapping away at all times. We intend to build this rig with your entertainment in mind! One sure way to get a party started is loud music blasting from high-quality speakers like the marine-grade components from JL Audio in Miramar, Florida.

Along with a new audio system, the rollers on our buggy needed to be replaced because they were bent and leaked. The 28-inch wheels originally bolted to our swamper were shot from years of digging deep in the mud and hitting who-knows-what that's down there. But with an offer to buy the old wheels and Plan B Fab's number programmed into our phones, the deal was made for new stagger-fit Dodge 1-ton wheels with 24-inch barrels and another set of 14.9x24 Super Traction tires. Now our buggy and F-1Filthy have the same wheel and tire combo.

One of the best ways to get the best event action is to sit in the pits and motivate the drivers and girls passing by. Once they come by the Mud Life buggy and see the crazy graphics and big cameras and hear the loud music, it's all the motivation they need to bury their rig or shake their stuff! JL Audio manufactures great marine-grade audio speakers. The difference between the old speakers and the new JL Audio speakers is incredible. The audio components put out a crisp clear sound, which is incredible motivation.

JL Audio provided us with eight midrange, 61/2-inch marine speakers and two 10-inch marine M10W5 subwoofers. The speakers should be more than enough sound to get all the mud girls dancing and the big rigs playing at any event we attend. Two M500/3 marine grade amplifiers will power the 10-speaker audio system. We are told the amps are guaranteed never to shut off from heavy load. We are confident that JL Audio has the equipment we need to have a good time every time. Two M500/3 marine grade amplifiers will power the 10-speaker audio system. We picked up an Aquatic AV head unit, so now we have the ability to listen to any digital music player or tune in to local radio. Best of all, the system is completely waterproof, including the handheld remote control. Before we installed the new equipment we had to remove a few components from the old audio system. The old components did a good job for the prior owners of this buggy, but they wouldn’t handle what we have planned. Using the template provided from JL Audio, Matt cut out the speaker holes and mounted the mids. Before we installed the new equipment we had to remove a few components from the old audio system. We replaced the power wire and speaker wires with JL Audio’s 4-guage power cable as well as JL’s high-quality speaker wire. We replaced the power wire and speaker wires with JL Audio’s 4-guage power cable as well as JL’s high-quality speaker wire.

Once the old wiring was removed and the speaker mounting holes were rounded out and cleaned up for the mids, Gary and Matt from Off-Road Audio in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, started building the boxes for the subwoofer out of 3/4-inch medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Using the detailed diagram and cutting template provided by JL Audio, the boxes came together quickly. To waterproof our boxes, we covered them with a thick coat of bedliner. This will hopefully keep moisture off the wood and prolong life. Since the boxes also have a port, the interior of the boxes were coated too. To waterproof our boxes, we covered them with a thick coat of bedliner. With the system finished and blasting out tunes, we can finally go test out these badass tires and sling a little mud listening to our favorite tunes.
