Different types of welded joints and whether they’re horizontal or vertical call for different rates of wire speed, nozzle movement and direction of travel. For horizontal welds, try to keep an eye on your puddle and experiment a bit with scrap steel making slow circles or a very gentle back-and-forth movement. Although the pros can weld uphill, on vertical welds, run the bead downhill to prevent the weld puddle from pooling and globbing up on itself.
