When Jeep decided to stretch the TJ for the ’03 model year and make an LJ, they took an old page from their playbook. Much like the CJ-8 that came before, the LJ has two rear crossmembers. Here you can clearly see the bumper and body mount crossmember and then the gas tank crossmember ahead of it. Seems kind of silly to us, but then it is a cheap way to use the same fuel tank in the TJ and LJ. The forward crossmember needs to go away to fit the bigger tank.
