Yamaha calls their Wolverine a Sport Adventure vehicle, and their R-SPEC EPS it has a lot going for it. It’s a very off-road capable machine, it is comfortable enough for long rides, and it seems to be very reliable right off the showroom floor. But with a few additions, it can be even more capable both from protection standpoints as well as a safety ones.
Yamaha, who has a long history of providing their own line of aftermarket parts, offers many for the Wolverine. We thought that a few items for our loaner were in order. We may be putting more of them on, such as a spare tire holder, which is always a good idea to have on the trail, and maybe some LED’s, but for the time being we went with a Warn winch, a Folding Windscreen and a Rear Grab Bar. These parts are right out of the Yamaha accessories catalog and as such are designed to be installed quickly and easily.
The Warn winch is a ProVantage 3500 that uses a bracket to attach to the Front Grab Bar/bumper that has a 3500lbs capacity and comes with 50 feet of 3/16th wire rope. The unit is fully sealed and features a roller fairlead and a corded remote. It goes without saying that having a winch handy when needed can be the difference between getting back or not. And since it’s rated at 3500lbs, it will have plenty of power to pull the less than 2000lb Wolverine out of just about any situation.
Yamaha’s Folding Windshield kit for the Wolverine attaches easily and can be folded down quickly.
The Folding Windscreen is just that, a tough plexi-glass windshield that folds down when not wanted but clamps securely when in the up position and snugs into tough and secure rubber brackets when in the down position. The final piece is a Rear Grab Bar (rear bumper to you and me), which of course, adds protection for the rear end of the unit as well as the engine.
Being designed by Yamaha, all of these pieces are simple, bolt on installs that require very little in the way of modifications. In fact, only a few holes need to be drilled into plastic to make them all happen. We had Curtis Zamora of Rite Performance do the installs for us, and he had all three of these accessories on the Wolverine in just a few hours.
We’ve had the Wolverine R-SPEC EPS for a while now, and it has proven to be a fun and tough SxS. With a few of Yamaha’s accessories installed, it will be even better out on the trail or cruising around the pits.

Yamaha offers a rear bumper (though oddly they call it a Rear Grab Bar) that adds protection and a little style. It features a black, crinkle finish and to say that it installs easily is an understatement.
Curtis Zamora at Rite Performance was kind enough to provide the hands for this install. Here, he begins by prepping the windshield.
The windshield is set into place, and the upper section XXX in place with the clamps.
The clamps that holds the upper section of the windshield to the cage are easy to open and close, and are adjustable to get the tension on the clip just right.
Small rubber guides hold the windshield in place along its lower edge.
Two larger Rubber Hood Brackets keep the windshield in place when it’s in the folded down position.
These rubber pieces need to be bolted into place. Marking them is the first step.
It’s always good to drill a pilot hole when drilling into plastic as it helps keep the bit from wandering.
The final size holes are drilled. Know that these holes are just through the plastic, and are easy to get to from beneath.
A small, self-sticking plastic washer is put in place.
For the smaller center holds, Yamaha supplies these expansion push-pin type plastic rivet fasteners.
The lower Windscreen Stay mount is on.
The Rubber Hood Brackets use a hex head bolt.
The windshield is folded down to check the fit into the lower rubber stays.
A rubber edging strip that runs along the top of the shield to seal it to the roof goes on last.
And that quickly, the Yamaha Folding Windscreen is on.
The rear end of the Wolverine needs some protection, and Yamaha has a bumper that does just that.
The bed needs to be lifted slightly out of the way, so the rear bolts are removed but the front bed bolts are simply loosened.
The bumper is lifted into position.
Easing the install process is the fact that the bumper bolts to existing holes
In literally 15 minutes one can have a Yamaha Grab Bar bolted to your Wolverine.
The Wolverine comes with a front Grab Bar that also features black crinkle-finish paint. The central opening is just waiting for the next addition.
The Warn ProVantage 3500 winch is the perfect size and strength for the Wolverine, and Yamaha has a bracket kit to make the installation easy.
The carrier plate bolts into the front Grab Bar/bumper assembly, but know that the winch needs to be installed into it first, but first…
The Warn roller fairlead is bolted to the bracket.
Then the winch is put into the bracket.
Both pieces are then bolted to the frame/Grab Bar.
Zamora placed the Warn junction block beneath the “hood,” where it is central to all that needs to be hooked up.
The inner tray of the center console is lifted out of the way. This will allow access to the inner tunnel to allow for running the wires.
A step drill is used to open up a hole for the plug.
The wires for the hand held remote are run to the front of the unit.
The handheld control unit is ready for when trouble strikes.
Connecting the leads for the Warn winch is simple; just follow the instructions and plug and play.
The leads are run to down to the battery.
Once all of the connections are made to the junction block and to the remote plug, the leads are connected to the battery terminals.
Zamora ran the leads cleanly, and with that the install of the Warn winch is nearly done.
The hook, complete with a Yamaha logo adorned cable grab, is placed on the cable.
In only a few hours, this Wolverine saw the addition of items that added comfort and protection.
