Hold your Hood on with Daystar Wrangler Hood WranglersPosted in How To: Body Chassis on March 17, 2017
Did you ever notice how stock Wranglers sit with a slightly nose-down rake? It’s not by coincidence. It’s for aerodynamics, helping to transform that otherwise square body from a brick to a wedge that cuts through the air more easily. But when you add a lift or leveling kit, the factory-designed aero goes to hell in a handbag. At road speeds the air gets up and under the hood, causing flutter and cavitation that stresses and overwhelms the rubber used in the factory hood latches. And just like anything, after so many cycles the factory rubber fatigues and then fails.
Daystar has a solution. For just around $24, the company’s Hood Wranglers (PN KJ09145BK) are a heavy-duty polyurethane replacement for the spongy factory rubber isolators inside the JK Wrangler hood latches. Simply remove the factory rubber isolator from the factory buckles, and install the Daystar Hood Wrangler isolators with the supplied hardware. The Hood Wranglers still offer some give to help prevent the latch mounts from pulling out of the hood or fender material, but their higher tensile strength eliminates hood flutter once and for all.
