It's Axle Tech Theater, Baby! A 4-Wheel & Off-Road First!

Step By Step

It’s got all the excitement of Godzilla and King Kong duking it out through the cardboard streets of Tokyo. It’s more fun than watching Mike Tyson on a testosterone-fueled bender in a room full of penguins. You’ll marvel at the sound of axletubes being pressed into cold, steel centersections. You’ll laugh yourselves stupid as you gawk at our lame selves trying to act professional on camera. You’ll wet yourselves like a student on the short bus as we bust an axleshaft on purpose before your very eyes.

Web Tech

That’s right! For the first time ever you can check out a real live 4-Wheel & Off-Road tech story designed specifically for our Web site. Our Web dominatrix, “Torrid” Tori Tellem, and yours truly walk you through every step of why we installed a custom Dynatrac Dana 60 under our way-too-fullsized Dodge Ramcharger. What prompted us to upgrade? Why did we choose Dynatrac? What do we gain? What happens when you try unsuccessfully to keep a Dana 44 axleshaft and U-joint from exploding? (OK, we exploded it on purpose.)

We’ll explain all these things and more with no big words, and in plain, only partially broken English. And since we talked one of the leaders in the custom axle industry, Jim McGean of Dynatrac, into narrating, there’s no need to even know how to read. Just click on the links for audio and video explanations of everything. See with animation and voiceovers how to measure spring pad width and pinion angle, how lift height affects driveshaft angle, and what happens when you get driveshaft bind. As our axle is manufactured and assembled, you’ll also get to see for yourself “live” why Dynatrac axles are considered among the best custom-made axle assemblies in the world. And, of course, there will be a lot of useful tips and tricks along the way.

Because the axle tech is displayed in flash format, you'll need to make sure you first download the plug-in by clicking here. In addition to animated tech, we've got five whole videos, showing everything from the breakage to Christian 'wheeling his junk!
