Hot dog down a hallway, square peg in a round hole, Cadillac in a tube sock, whatever you’re saying, there are a lot of instances of putting two things of different sizes together. Unfortunately, unless you own a rack of spools of wire, odds are good that you will be forced to join two different sized wires at some point in your Jeep as well. While it might not be pretty, we’ve all done it. Just follow this simple tip: Never patch in a smaller wire. If you have one size smaller and one size bigger on hand, always go with the slightly larger wire. It might be overkill, it might look funny, but it will never overheat, melt the insulation, or short out to the firewall.
