Put a Rubber on It
Blah, blah, blah…always run a grommet when passing a wire through metal…yeah, yeah, yeah. Our shop teacher always told us this. Easy for him to say, as there was a free standing cabinet of grommets in the shop. Once we hit the real world, that just didn’t happen. So, we went ahead and wrapped the wire with extra electrical tape. Whether you make it extra-thick or extra-long, it seems that the sheetmetal always finds a way through or around the tape. Either go to the store and buy a grommet, or run the wire through an existing one. Make sure both sides are clear and poke through the grommet, then use an old coat hanger and electrical tape the wire to it and pull it through.
