I look for a few things for speakers for Jeeps. First, make sure the cone (A) isn’t made of any kind of paper. You want plastic, metal, or woven carbon fiber. Shown here is polypropylene (plastic). Paper will die in the first rainstorm. I used to tell people to look for butyl rubber, not foam rubber surrounds (B). I used to have problems with the foam coming apart due to sun exposure but have had good luck with the Kicker stuff over the past 5-10 years because these surrounds are treated with a UV protectant. If you know you are going to get the speakers wet, look for Marine speakers because the glue between the surround and the cone will hold up better to getting wet. Shown is a Kicker DS 60.
