Experiencing the plug-and-play nature of diesel performance has never been easier. In an age where we use our smartphones for everything, a new product called EZ Lynk Auto Agent couldn’t have come at a better time. Thanks to the advent of this technology, you can now program, diagnose, and monitor your truck via your smartphone. There’s no more emailing custom tuning files back and forth and no more itty-bitty, easy-to-lose SD cards, and you don’t even have to pull the VIN number to get started. But that’s not all. EZ Lynk has the ability to data log and then share your collected data with a technician—making a diagnosis and an impending fix possible without ever having to visit a shop. With the capability of reflashing vehicle system controllers as well, saying EZ Lynk is revolutionary would be an understatement. We’re talkin’ diesel trucks in this story, but it’s important to note that EZ Lynk is available for more than 180 vehicle applications.

What Is It?

EZ Lynk Auto Agent comes with a pass-through device that connects to your truck’s OBD-II port and broadcasts a wi-fi access point, which, in conjunction with the free Auto Agent mobile app, allows you to wirelessly connect to your vehicle using your iOS or Android device. Originally only available for ’11-’16 Ford Power Strokes and iOS devices, EZ Lynk support has expanded to include Android users and ’11-’16 Duramax-powered Chevys and GMCs. On either platform (Power Stroke or Duramax), end users can see gains of up to 200 hp according to PPEI, one of the premier tuners and advocates of EZ Lynk. In addition to its programming and data logging abilities, EZ Lynk also allows you to use your phone as a multi-gauge monitor, effectively ruling out the need to purchase an aftermarket monitor (which entails forking over another big chunk of money) or A-pillar analog gauges.

Without a doubt, EZ Lynk ushers the diesel pickup market into the new age. There is no need to relay your truck’s identifying information (VIN, ECU strategy, TCM strategy) to your tuner any longer in order to receive a custom calibration. As soon as it’s interfaced, the EZ Lynk will automatically recognize your truck, along with its factory ECU and TCM strategies. Perhaps the biggest advocates of EZ Lynk-based tuning are PPEI and GDP Tuning, which offer calibrations for ’11-’16 Ford 6.7L Power Stroke mills and ’11-’16 LML Duramax engines. For trucks with larger injectors and aftermarket turbochargers or for end users with other specific tuning needs, one-off custom calibrations can be created, which (of course) can be emailed to the customer and then uploaded directly into the truck.

How It Works

After you’ve purchased EZ Lynk (along with a support pack) from your preferred retailer, you simply download the free Auto Agent app (available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store), create an account, and you’ve got access to the EZ Lynk cloud. Once you launch the app, all of your truck’s information is flawlessly streamed to your device (be it an iPhone, Android smartphone, or even an iPad). You can navigate prepackaged or custom tuning files, read and clear DTCs, data log, and configure the PIDs you’d most like to keep an eye on (rail pressure, pulse width, boost, transmission temp, coolant temp, throttle position, ambient air temp, and dozens more). With this product, ultimate convenience is now at your fingertips.

Key Benefits of EZ Lynk:

*Wi-fi–compatible tuning
*Touchscreen (everything is performed through your smartphone or tablet)
*No programming device necessary
*Up to 200hp gains
*Read and clear diagnostic trouble codes
*Hands-free data logging capability: simply send a data log directly to your tuner or mechanic from within the application (and record up to 30 minutes at a time)
*Capable of storing custom calibrations from all of your favorite tuners (not just one company’s)
*Automatic firmware updates
*TCM (transmission) tuning included in addition to ECU calibrations (for added line pressure, improved torque converter lockup strategy, and raised shift points) on ’11-’16 Power Strokes (with support for the Allison-shifted Duramax trucks coming soon)
*Adjustable windshield mount for secure mounting of your smartphone

Gone are the days of buying a separate monitor in order to keep a watchful eye on your truck’s powertrain vitals. With EZ Lynk, your smartphone effectively becomes a multi-parameter gauge (and the EZ Lynk ships with an adjustable windshield mount for your smartphone). Just remember that, as on any phone with a constantly active screen and a running app, your device’s battery will be drained in short order without being plugged into a charger. However, rest assured that should your device die or shut off, nothing will change in the performance of your truck (you won’t lose power, kill the truck, or fry the ECU).
EZ Lynk’s automatic firmware updates provide a major advantage for both the tuner and the customer. For example, your tuner detects a problem in one of your calibrations that exists across the entire customer base, so your tuner corrects the issue and updates every customer’s calibration simultaneously, rather than addressing all of them on an individual basis. We can see this type of instant-fix technology making its way into OEM applications as well, and we’re told the folks at EZ Lynk had the OEs in mind when they designed the system.
The data logging aspect of EZ Lynk is a great selling point. How many times have you experienced an intermittent problem in your days behind the wheel? The kind of issues that can surface sporadically and then go away for a week are extremely hard for any shop, technician, or tuner to diagnose. By being able to hit the record button when your truck acts up, you can capture the exact behavior you would like to share with your tuner to diagnose the issue, whether it be mechanical or tune-related. It not only saves you and your truck potentially lengthy downtime, but it also saves your tuner a lot of headache as well.
