We found that the supplied Rubicon Express bumpstop extensions, along with the aftermarket bumpstops that came on our used TJ, allowed less than 1-inch of uptravel. That’s not enough. We replaced the fiber-reinforced, 2-inch plastic spacers with some shorter 13⁄4-inch DOM tubing cut to 11⁄4 inches long ($3.00). This gave us an air gap of between 11⁄2 to 2 inches between the bumpstop and the bumpstop pad on the axle. The bumpstop extensions are important for keeping the tire out of the body, and also to keep the longer Rubicon Express shock from bottoming on compression.
