Once the carrier caps are removed, you can pull the carrier. You should have to pry it out-not like this one, which just fell out. (That's a sign that the bearing preload had relaxed or was improperly set previously. Note the thick shim on the right that's ready to fall.) Take care to retain all the shims and mark them according to which side they came from. You will measure those shims and use those dimensions as a baseline to reassemble the axle.
