This is an example of a GM Corporate 14-bolt full-floating rear axle. You can see how the threaded spindle is welded to the axletube and made to accept the wheel hub along with tapered roller bearings. It’s not uncommon to salvage these axles with drum brakes from older 1-ton trucks and retrofit them with aftermarket disc brake caliper mounts that bolt or weld to the housing.
