Rag Joint (or Rubber Coupling): When the steering shaft has perfect (or close to) alignment with the steering box and column, a rubber coupling is used in place of a U-joint. The upside: The rubber coupling absorbs road vibration and reduces it at the wheel. The downside: It wears out more quickly than U-joints.
