The final step is to burn it in. Adkins set the welder on “full boogie” and started burning wire while an assistant slowly rotated the housing so he could make a full pass all the way around the axletube in one shot. He then did a second pass in the opposite direction. A couple of final measurements verified that everything was up to snuff. On a side note, the inner Cs are cast steel as opposed to cast iron, which is why they can be welded.
