The Jeep Comanche pickup was one of seven concept vehicles that Jeep and Mopar unveiled here in Moab, Utah, at the 2016 Easter Jeep Safari, and we were there with cameras blazing! The Comanche is based on the Renegade, but the wheelbase has been lengthened six inches and a military-esque bed has been added.

Here you can see exclusive photos, a video, and our thoughts on the Comanche. Make sure to check out all the exclusive content on the other Jeep concept vehicles here at fourwheeler.com!

Sean Holman, content director, Four Wheeler Network: An MJ reimagined for today complete with a unibody design. Cute and fun, but thankfully it has a separate bed.

Fred Williams, editor, 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine: The diesel in the Renegade Comanche is the tiny torque machine we’ve been looking for in a little Jeep. I’m not as sure about the overall look of it as a truck, and the styling of both the Crew Chief and Comanche with the clean cab and rugged trailer box-style bed tells me any Jeep truck to show up will follow that theme as well. The Comanche wasn’t amazing or lame in my view, but I do think the diesel under the hood would answer the current lack of power in the Renegade and I think it needs to be offered stateside.

Christian Hazel, editor, Four Wheeler Magazine: I’ll say it. There’s a real place for a vehicle like this in the global market. Not everybody outside of North America can have a pickup as big or bigger than a Toyota Tacoma. A real mini-truck like the Comanche concept puts a 4x4-capable workhorse in the hands of tradesmen from Europe to South America and everywhere in between. I doubt we’d see the ragtop, but man – I kinda dig this thing a whole lot more than I thought I would. And did I mention – it’s a diesel?

Ken Brubaker, senior editor, Four Wheeler Magazine: The bed and the cab don’t seem to go together visually, but that’s one of the quirky aspects that I like. With the diesel engine as an added bonus, the Comanche is actually pretty cool to me.

Harry Wagner, contributor, Four Wheeler Network: As Chevy and Toyota move upscale with their midsize pickup trucks there is definitely a void that a small, fuel efficient pickup like this could fill. The added wheelbase resulted in increased stability and ride comfort when compared to the standard Renegade. The shortened front fascia is something that we hope to see on future Trailhawk models.
