Most people know what patina is. It’s that awesome look that only time, wear, weather, and frequent use can achieve. Or is it? Nowadays one of the trends to help your 4x4, hot rod, or other motorized creation stand out from the crowd is to make sure it has a patina’d finish, even if that means you gotta paint it to look that way. No need to wait decades for sweat, sun, and weather to beat your finish into submission. Just go down to the hardware store and grab a couple cans of rust-colored paint and have at it. And so we introduce, “fauxtina.” This year in Moab Easter Jeep Safari 2018 there are plenty of rigs running around with either a complete faux patina treatment or something like this Willys pickup we spotted in our hotel parking lot with a blend of what looks like some genuine wear and some fauxtina treatment. What’s your take on the subject?
