Information on the 2014 Ram 1500 light-duty full-size pickup is pouring in, and the more we see of it, the more of it we like! Considering that the 2013 Ram 1500 won Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year, Four Wheeler’s Off-Road Pickup Truck of the Year, The North American Truck of the Year and Truck of Texas, it is not surprising that we’ll see more best-in-class and segment-firsts for the Ram brand in 2014.

Remember the conversations you’ve had with your friends for the past few years: “Someone should offer a half-ton diesel truck”? Well, the 2014 model year indeed marks the inception of the half-ton diesel (as you have undoubtedly heard); Ram is the only player with its 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel. Ram will be the only manufacturer in the light-duty class to offer diesel, gasoline, and flex-fuel engines for 2014. The class-exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission (TorqueFlite 8) will come standard in the EcoDiesel and the V-6 Pentastar.

New for 2014 are two innovative shades - Blue Streak and Granite Crystal – and a front park assist system, which is a first time offering on a full-size Ram pickup truck. The system utilizes four sensors on the front bumper to detect objects as far away as 47.2 inches. Fuel-efficiency refinements include pulse-width modulation (PWM), which reduces parasitic electrical load. A variable displacement air-conditioning compressor lessens engine load by automatically varying pumping capacity to meet air conditioning demands. The pulse-width modulated vent blower continually controls fan speeds for optimal performance in all driving scenarios. The humidity sensor, located behind the rearview mirror, continually measures the potential for the formation of windshield humidity. The 2014 Ram 1500 will feature the latest technology in air conditioning by carrying F1234yf refrigerant. Also new is a capless fuel filler system for re-filling convenience.

The 2014 Ram 1500 will come in Regular Cab, Quad Cab, and Crew Cab; 2WD and 4WD. Regular Cabs are assembled at the Saltillo Truck Assembly plant in Saltillo, Mexico; Quad and Crew Cabs at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Warren, Michigan. Starting price for the 2014 Ram 1500 is $24,200 (plus $1,095 destination), with the EcoDiesel option adding $2,850 when compared to a similarly equipped Hemi Ram 1500.
