I’ve been looking for an older Jeep. JK Wranglers are competent, comfortable vehicles, but they’re BIG and heavy. While we’ll continue with our JKs, it’s also time for something smaller and lighter. To this end, I’ve been looking for a flatfender or early CJ. There are a lot of them out there.
My friend Kevin Hawkins and I have been discussing this Jeep search as it goes along. He reminded me about his 2001 TJ that was halfway built and taking up space in his garage. I moved ahead a few decades in my thinking. The TJ is the same dimensions as a CJ7, meaning smaller than a JK, and is much lighter than a JK. I’m still a leaf spring fan, but we know how to make coil suspensions work and they don’t pound you to a pulp while high-speed exploring.
Kevin snapped a few cell phone photos of the TJ as it sits.
The search is over. The yellow TJ will soon be gracing the pages of 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Magazine!
