Chevy and GMC Gear up for Big Changes

GM has introduced their completely redesigned 2015 full-size lineup of SUVs, which includes the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL (plus Denali trims). With a compelling new design, purposeful and practical features, and optimized performance, technology and safety, it’s likely that the fullsize SUV market will be pleased. The 2015 GM SUVs excel in six key attributes: exterior styling, interior refinement, comprehensive safety, quality and durability, driving experience, and depth and breadth.

Notice the whole new exterior design for 2015. Love it? Hate it? Give it a chance and anticipate seeing it for real! It is touted as sleeker and more aerodynamic, enhancing on-road efficiency and contributing to a quieter ride. Inlaid doors help keep the interior quiet. Some will argue that Chevy and GMC look the same and are exactly the same. Others adamantly refute this claim. Wherever you stand, the GMC and Chevrolet SUVs have different hoods, grilles, fascias, fenders and headlamps, adding a specific style to each brand. There is also no overlap in external sheet metal between the GM trucks and SUVS. Wheel offerings include 18, 20, and 22-inch options.

Speaking of the interior, more space has been achieved through fold-flat second and third row seats. Premium materials cover the all-new seats, and a center-mounted HVAC keeps passengers cool. A high-volume center console and hidden storage behind the NAV allow more room for your stuff. A standard eight-inch-diagonal color touch screen radio with enhanced IntelliLink and available navigation allow occupants to cruise in style – not to mention the standard Bose sound system that will fill the distinctively quiet cabin.

These SUVs are packed full of safety equipment for the added sense of protection that is so important for all families. Front seat center-mounted air bags (for models with bucket seats) add more protection for front passengers, along with roof-rail air bags for all passengers. Systems including lane departure warning, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision alert, GMS’s Safety Alert Seat and side blink-zone alert stand on-guard in assisting the driver. All sorts of sensors aid in vehicle security.

Quality and durability are important traits of the GM SUVs. Both initial quality and long-term reliability resonate with consumers and can be found in the 2015 lineup. The driving experience is sure to be enjoyable. A fully boxed frame (composed of more than 75 percent high-strength steel) and new shear-style body mounts attached to the frame aid a controlled, smooth ride. A new 9.5-inch rear axle and standard automatic locking rear differential also enhance the driving experience. The 2015 fullsize GM SUVs will be powered by the 5.3L and 6.2L V-8 EcoTec3 engines. It appears that if you want the 6.2L, you’ll have to go the Denali route. Electric variable-assist power steering and a four-wheel disc brake system with Duralife brake rotors (along with brake pedal revisions to improve feel and effectiveness) help control the 355 horsepower or 420 horsepower beast.

The GM fullsize SUV options span a depth and breadth that will fulfill customers’ needs and desires. Choose your size; the Suburban and Yukon XL are 20 inches longer and have a 14-inch longer wheelbase than the Tahoe and Yukon, allowing for more third row room. Choose your powertrain; the EcoTec3 5.3L or the 6.2L offer advanced technologies to aid in fuel efficiency and performance. The choices go on and on with the 2015 GM fullsize lineup, which is scheduled to arrive in dealerships in the first quarter of 2014.
