Is It True?
There’s a recall of around 470,000 ’05-’10 Jeep Grand Cherokees and ’06-’10 Commanders because they might slip into Neutral when the vehicle is fired up?

More talk of a three-rowed Jeep? Feel even more bad about yourself now, Commander?

If Esurance is right, then the odds are 1 in 11.5 of you being pulled over, and that the chances you will get into an accident while on a thousand-mile road trip are 1 in 366?

The Ram 1500 made the top 10 list of new vehicles purchased by below-prime car buyers in the past six months, said www.carfinance.com?

GM has applied for trademarks for LT4, LT5, LT88, and LTX?

Los Angeles is the third most congested city in the world? And is number one in most congested roads? Traffic/navigation service provider INRIX researched that?

The new Chevy Colorado will share the same grille design as the new Silverado? And more talk that it might have a diesel?

According to the Lowell Sun, vehicle theft in Massachusetts has dropped 88 percent since the mid-’70s? That’s due to surveillance technology like antitheft devices and GPS tracking?

“During a photo shoot, a Ram truck was lodged on some rocks on a beach when the tide came in. The EPA inspected the vehicle and confirmed there was not any leakage from the vehicle’s fluid tanks.”
—From a letter Chrysler sent to Automotive News after it broke the story that a photo shoot with a prototype ’14 Ram Power Wagon went awry. Apparently the Power Wagon was attempting to climb rocks at low tide at a beach in California, but got stuck and couldn’t be freed before the tide rose and took it out to sea. It was recovered the following day

That’s Interesting
The University of Buffalo has studied crashes, cars, and SUVs and has concluded that crash ratings aren’t really what you should care about. Rather, it’s the vehicle type. Like, drivers in cars were almost 10 times more likely to die if the SUV involved had a better crash rating. Then the unbelievable discovery: “When two vehicles are involved in a crash, the overwhelming majority of fatalities occur in the smaller and lighter of the two vehicles.” By “unbelievable” we mean “duh.” Also, when crash ratings weren’t factored in, people in cars were more than seven times likely to die in a head-on collision than the SUV drivers.

Thanks, readers! We put out a plea for 25,000 “likes” on www.facebook.com/fourwheelermag and have reached 27,193 as of press time! If any of you haven’t yet, we’d “like” to get to 30,000, if you can make it happen. We’ll “like” you long time.

It was www.edmunds.com that called the Ford Super Duty a Top 10 tech-friendly vehicle.

Hey, can you guess how many of you are driving unsafe vehicles? We’ll wait—guess. OK, turns out more than a third of Americans are, according to a survey conducted by www.couponcodes4u.com. Unsafe had to do with damage from an accident, in need of repairs, or just plain old.

Speaking of driving things, www.carinsurance.com also did a survey: How would drivers screen potential customers and then price polices if they ran an insurance company? They’d pay attention and price accordingly, things like texting, which would carry a stiffer penalty than speeding, if someone didn’t use a turn signal their rates would go up, and credit being a consideration in insurance rates.

If you don’t live in Texas, you can get your Silverado close to this by ordering the Custom Sport package.

Your Government At Work
The House approved legislation that would ban the sale of corn-based ethanol fuel in Maine; now it awaits Senate approval, and if it were to become a law, it wouldn’t go into effect until at least two other states in New England— Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont—had done the same.

The House Natural Resources Committee approved the Johnson Valley National Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area Establishment Act, which has as its focus how to expand the U.S. Marine Corps base, which adjoins the ORV area. The Marines would have access to the area, but otherwise it would have to be left alone.

Fail: There was legislation intro’d in Florida to make annual vehicle registration fees cheaper. No such luck.

Special Edition Ford Raptor

2014 Toyota 4Runner
How old is the Toyota 4Runner? Try almost 30 and in its fifth generation. How and when did that happen? Anyway, to celebrate the big “almost 30,” the ’Runner has gone through a redesign, including a new exterior, notably with a new front end, and interior tweaks, like trim and a brighter instrument panel. The ute comes standard with a 4.0L V-6 (270hp and 278 lbft of torque) mated to a five-speed ECT-I auto trans. Three models are available: SR5, Limited, and Trail, which is the off-road-centric version, although the A-TRAC traction system is available on all three. The Trail has some specific features though, like an electronic-locking rear diff as well as an optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, disconnecting the stabilizer bars in tough terrain. There’s also Crawl Control, which basically does the modulation of the throttle and brakes for you.

What’s Happening In The Industry
Victor Technologies is 100 years old. It’s “the leader in cutting and gas control equipment,” they said. Yeah, we giggled immaturely at that like you did. Anyway, we don’t think the intention was that humor; it seemed to be the announcement that it’s holding two contests: Show Us Your Innovations and A Cut Above. One is a calendar contest; the other is a special opp for students and schools. Go to www.victortechnologies.com/victor100 for info.

Random Photo We Dug
Check out this vintage pic (we think late ’40s) of the Chrysler parts department—when counter guys wore ties and three-piece suits to sell antifreeze. We’d buy more antifreeze if fancy duds like that were worn these days. Hint.
