The 2014 Chevy Silverado Black Ops Concept truck takes disaster preparedness to the next level. Based on a 4x4 Crew Cab, this ominous-looking truck has been fortified with custom-fabricated lower body armor and a lockable, bed-mounted Truck Vault storage unit that holds everything you’d need in an emergency: solar power pack, gloves, gas masks, First Aid kit, shovel, and rope. A generator, fuel and water cans, and a crate of food are stockpiled atop the storage unit. Bed accessibility is assisted by a CornerStep, which needs to be guarded carefully so thieves do not escape with valuable supplies. The locking tailgate and tailgate EZ-Lift-and-Lower feature keep the truck’s tailgate protected, intact and in control.
“Luck favors the prepared and the Silverado Black Ops concept is a survival kit on four wheels,” said Chevrolet design manager Dave Ross. “This concept truck showcases the stronger, smarter and more capable elements of the 2014 Silverado and how accessories can enhance them to suit any lifestyle.”
The front-mounted winch, equipped with an LED, spot light and integrated tow hooks, combined with a small lift for optimal ground clearance and off-road tires mounted on Z71 18-inch wheels enable the Black Ops Silverado to execute quick recoveries. Forward and rearward-facing light bars keep surroundings illuminated during power outages. The MyLink system, available with navigation, helps navigate the roads – what remains of the roads, at least. With 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, the EcoTec3 5.3L’s best V-8 fuel economy in the segment (23 mpg highway) will keep this Silverado working hard while other vehicles succumb to fuel shortages.
