Range Rover has a few debuts for the 2013 LA Auto Show. Before going any further, it seems appropriate to start playing some dramatic classical music because this luxurious and oh-so powerful vehicle has a majestic aura that elicits such a response. And while we’re at it, let’s watch gratifying video upon video of Range Rovers caressing vast sand dunes while flinging glorious trails of sand from their tires, of course with the classical music still playing. Since we’re already on a tangent, we might as well stay there. In case you didn’t know, the Range Rover is seriously exhilarating and liberating, on the road and especially in the sand with its available 510hp 5.0 liter LR-V8 supercharged engine. If you need to add it to your bucket list, do so: off-road and on-road in a Supercharged Range Rover. Just be warned that you’ll likely mash the throttle and leave the rest of the pack behind as you venture onto virgin dunes or unknown roads.

Notice the "L" badge near the front tire delineating the long-wheelbase.

Where were we? Oh yes, the 2014 Range Rover will be available in both standard and long-wheelbase options. The long-wheelbase option, available late in the first quarter of 2014 and offered on Supercharged and Autobiography trim levels, will add 5.5-inches of rear legroom and allow for a rear seatback recline of 17 degrees. The long-wheelbase Range Rovers will display a sharp “L” badge on the lower front door trims and will have powered door blinds and a panoramic sunroof.

In addition to the long-wheelbase option, the 2014 Range Rover Autobiography Black will reign as the new ultra-luxury flagship. It is amazing that a luxury SUV could become even more luxurious, but it indeed has happened. For the United States, the Autobiography Black will have a limited build of around 100 vehicles and will be available in the long-wheelbase configuration. This top-of-the-line vehicle is the first class pinnacle of exclusivity, refinement, and design. With amenities such as front and rear seat memory and climate control, massage functions, adjustable 18-way front seat, chiller compartment, vehicle mood lighting, rear electrically deployable tables, power recline rear seats, and a powered recliner calf rest for the right hand side rear passenger seat, it is easy to see that the Autobiography Black’s interior focuses on passenger comfort and contentment.

The sticker price for this jewel? About $135,995 according to their website. If you had to ask like we did, it’s probably not the vehicle for you. That’s okay though, we can still have our classical music.
