New Jeep reportedly to be called Jeepster, Built on Fiat Platform, Good Move?Posted in News on December 18, 2013 Comment (0)
If you’re a Jeep (jeep for you pre-AMC/Chrysler fans) loyalist, you’re probably still licking your wounds left behind by the return of the Jeep Cherokee which surely had you banging your fists against your oil-stained ground. Well, get ready because we’re going to throw a little more salt in your wounds again but this time it’s with another Jeep namesake.
The word on the playground is Jeep is going to be unveiling their new Jeepster at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2014. This new jeep is said to be positioned below the current Cherokee but that’s not what has us worried. Nope, it’s the fact that this new so called “Jeepster” is reportedly going to be based on a five door Fiat 500X. The Fiat 500X is a non-traditional four-wheel-drive platform that only offers front wheel drive or all-wheel-drive. Although the Fiat 500X is offered with a diesel option, we don’t think that will make up for its lack of off road prowess. The lack of low range on any Jeep worth its weight in salt is just WRONG!
As of right now it’s still unclear whether or not Jeep will be offering the Jeepster, which is currently slated as a foreign vehicle, in the U.S. market.
The spy shots of the Fiat 500X definitely aren’t doing it any favors but the rumor is the Jeepster will have a much more rugged and hopefully aggressive appearance.
We’re not sure why Jeep would want to bring this model over to the U.S. market but if they want to introduce a Jeepster that jeep loyalists will buy, we think they should base it off the current Jeep Wrangler JK.
