Vehicle fires, especially on newer models, are statistically rare, but in this day of instantaneous social media, even isolated incidents can receive widespread attention. This past weekend, a brand-new 2015 GMC Yukon taken on a test drive in Anaheim, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. Few details surrounding the circumstances or causes of the fire are yet public, but some bystanders and reports are mentioning a fluid leak that caused a fire to start in the front of the vehicle.

Fire authorities were dispatched quickly and put the fire out within 20 minutes. Residents of the nearby neighborhood reported hearing popping noises, which were likely the front tires exploding from the heat of the flames. The fire was extinguished before it got a chance to reach the rear of the vehicle and the fuel tank.

General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler said an investigative team from General Motors headquarters in Detroit has been sent to Southern California to examine the Yukon, and the possible causes of the fire. Nobody was seriously injured in the incident.

The GMC Yukon and related Chevrolet Tahoe have just gone on sale within the past few months, and there have been no official recall campaigns yet on the vehicles.
