The 2015 North American International Auto Show has definitely been a great year for truck enthusiasts, especially off-road enthusiasts. Not to be outdone, Ram has just unveiled their newest addition to the Ram 1500 lineup, meet the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel! Nope, that’s not the same front bumper and skid plate that the Ford F-150 Raptor has but it certainly bears a striking resemblance to it. The 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel is a different type of truck all together and is aimed at the truck buyer that need a half-ton truck that offers more than a sticker package while being able to confidently hit the trails without breaking the bank.
The 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel deviates from it’s half-ton siblings and features an all-new grille with a prominent billet silver RAM letter badge. You’ll also notice that the very familiar Ram (Dodge if you’re old enough to remember that) iconic cross-hair grille has been dropped in favor of a blacked-out Rebel exclusive grille that sits over a completely new black powered-coated off-road front bumper which incorporates a powder coated, billet silver skid plate, new front tow hooks and new LED fog lamps. A set of Black bezel bi-functional projector headlamps with LED marker lights lie beneath an aluminum, twin-snorkel Mopar sport hood.
The Ram 1500 Rebel’s blacked-out front-end continues on the flanks, where black Power Wagon wheel-arch moldings, flat-black badge, mirrors and lower body panels create a distinctive trail-ready presence. The new trim features a two-tone paint scheme with black as a constant on the lower body, front to rear.
Out back, the Ram 1500 Rebel features a bold new RAM stamped tailgate with blacked-out lettering. The Rebel and 4X4 badges are rather large as well to emphasize the truck’s uniqueness. The rear bumper also features the sleek black powder coating with flared cutouts around dual chrome-tipped exhausts while the tail lamps incorporate black bezels to match front lighting. The Rebel also includes an optional backup camera to provide a better field of vision when maneuvering off the beaten path. A new tri-fold tonneau cover finishes off the Rebel trim with an embossed Ram logo.
The 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel will be available in five color choices, including: Granite Crystal Metallic, Bright Silver Metallic, Flame Red, Bright White and Brilliant Black. Both monotone and two-tone paint options are also offered.
The 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel isn’t an aggressive looking truck with a sticker package though, it has been outfitted for trail duties with a 1-inch taller ride height for improved off-road approach, departure and breakover angles. A set of specially tuned Bilstein shocks paired with Ram’s exclusive air suspension system help soak up the bumps and jitters of off-road driving while providing more ground clearance. The combination of larger tires and suspension lift give the Ram 1500 Rebel a best-in-class ground clearance of 10.3 inches.
To help the Rebel conquer any terrain off the beaten path, a set of 33-inch tall (LT285/70R17E) Toyo Open Country A/T all-terrain tires mounted on a set of all-new 17-inch aluminum wheels with matte black painted accent pockets and multi-angled surfaces. The aggressive tread pattern offers good traction in bad conditions, both on and off pavement. The 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel is available exclusively as a crew cab model with a 5-foot 7-inch bed configuration. Power options include a base 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 in 4X4 or 4X2 with the HEMI V-8. Both come with a 3.92 axle ratio, a first for the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine. Of course the RamBox is still an option on the Rebel.
The interior of the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel are anything but subtle and are every bit as brawny and rugged as it is outside. Creature comforts include high-durability technical grain vinyl seats finished in Radar Red and Black with Sedoso fabric inserts that are embossed with the Toyo tire tread pattern. The embossed tread pattern on the seats is the spitting image of the Rebel’s actual footprint to give a clear hint at what this off-road rig is all about.
Standard heated front seats feature Light Diesel Gray accent stitching and Radar Red Ram’s head embroidery on the headrests as well as Black with Light Diesel Gray Rebel nameplate embroidered on upper seat bolsters. The all-black instrument panel, door armrests and logo-embossed center console armrest cover are topped with two-tone Radar Red and Light Gray accent stitching. The center stack and console are finished in Iron Gray Metallic paint to give it a cast-iron appearance. An all-new center console bin incorporates a cell phone/tablet holder with molded insert allowing for various-sized devices. Radar Red anodized vent rings, door accent rings, door trim spears and center console trim ring add color detail to the interior while the Rebel’s heated steering wheel is wrapped with semi-perforated black leather, accented with Radar Red X-stitches. The upper glove box door also features the Rebel nameplate badge while deep all-weather rubber floor mats with contrasting Radar Red Ram’s head help contain dirt, snow and debris for truck owners who actually venture into the dirt. The interior is finished off with a new black headliner and matching upper pillars.
Ram Rebel is the 10th member of the Ram truck lineup, which includes Tradesman, Express, SLT, Big Horn/Lone Star, Outdoorsman, Sport, Laramie, Longhorn and Limited and not surprisingly the Rebel fits right above the Outdoorsman. Sure it’s not an all out off-road beast like the Ramrunner was but that’s not the point. The Rebel offers real world off-road prowess in a package that looks flat out cool and best of all is it’s a real world off-road truck that is at home on the job-site, on the road or in the dirt. Expect the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel to go on sale early in the second half of 2015.
